tiktok is getting banned :D

On what planet do you live?

I mean, different governments can have different reasons to block the same platform, can they not?

To repeat:
> TikTok has never been available in China, as the country has its own version of the app, called Douyin. Both apps are owned by the same Chinese company, ByteDance.

I'm not ignoring your claim-- I'm saying that your claim is not a good reason for banning tiktok, and I'm a little stunned that you asked for proof that idiocy existed before tiktok on the internet.

Wikipedia has a list of internet challenges. The following were all well-known before tiktok. The "blackout challenge" (we always called it the choking game) in particular was really common back when I was in grade school-- and I was in grade school when MySpace was the dominant social media platform.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackout_challenge
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Condom_challenge
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_challenge
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_slapping

These are just challenges linked to the internet that have wikipedia pages, mind you-- dumb trends are hardly a 21st century invention. I'm pretty sure that cutting, for example, has been around for quite some time, as have chicken games and cow tipping.

Common things people have said about various forms of entertainment.

The point was that they don't really rot your brain-- it's just something people say about things they don't like to make them unpopular.

> It's a contradiction. Why is banning something stupid stupid?
Very simple. The opposite of "stupid" is "intelligent", not "stupid and banned".

Also, being stupid is not a sufficient reason to be banned. Being harmful is.

If everything that is stupid was banned, we would all rot in jail. Even Einstein at times indulged in saying some stupid jokes.

Finally, stupidity is to some extent subjective. There surely is some stuff you value, that I find stupid, and conversely. But as long as we're not harming each other, there is no reason to ban them.

It's one thing to ban the app in China - another to ban the website ... which proves its the content they're interested in censoring primarily
