Partial lag compensation

Lichess compensates the lag and I am glad that it does so. That said, in very quick time controls it can create some problems, as one side might get a serious edge through that.
I was connecting to Lichess from various countries and the lag varied between 25 (in Germany), 32-59 (at my home), 85-90 (at other country) to over 200 at a very distant country from which I did not even play on Lichess.
Wouldn't it be fairer to compensate just 80 per cent of the lag? I am unable to say whether it would be more advantageous to have a good connection or a worse one then, which might mean that the chances would be about balanced. The exact percentage can be a matter of discussion, it could be 80 to 90 per cent. My point is that one would not be punished for a slower connection, but would not get advantage because of it, either. I understand that some people are manipulating with the lag and that my suggestion might also have its problems, but for a majority of players it could be fairer in very quick time controls.
