Lichess v2 is coming

There is no computer analysis or opening explorer in v2 yet, right?
Hi,

while I generally do support the update (although the site doesn't look outdated at all), I have to say I have some concerns I noticed on the dev site.

First of all, I mainly play on mobile app, so it's not a huge deal for me. But when I do play on PC, I really like the simplistic and minimalistic design with no huge elements. Current size is just the sweetspot.
However, the new site makes everything larger on my screen. I end up looking at unnecessarily oversized elements, and also for a lot of things scrolling is now required. Also, I have a large screen, and having the board taking the full height makes it actually harder to play - there is more mouse movement required and it's harder to see things at a glance, which has a significant impact especially on blitz or bullet games.

I simply hate this "modern" approach to the web design, where everything just happens to be unsuitable for PC browsers. Sure, on mobile it makes sense (but there is usually an app for the site anyway), but on larger screens everything is screaming at you, endless scrolling is needed, and it's very hard to navigate because you have to basically turn your head constantly (and scroll all the time) to find what you are looking for.
I have a large screen to fit as much content as possible on it. But instead, everything is oversized and it's just not a pleasant experience, with the sole reason being that "it's modern" and "everybody does it".

So please reconsider at least some of the changes. I don't need huge letters, I don't need huge board, I don't want to scroll, because there is plenty of space on my screen where things should be able to fit.

But anyway, thanks for at least keeping the general design as it is, because it looks good and it's perfectly functional.
I agree with FRelaxed... I have to set the page to 80% zoom to make it viewable.
@FRelaxed There is an option in lichess.dev (when you click on your profile name), that let's you change the board size :)
Some people's ratings are senseless, they have titles they don't have, and lichess.dev/tv is not a thing. I'm sure you're already on the way to patching but I wanted to point it out anyway, because I'm tired of never speaking my thoughts.
@FRelaxed You are absolutely right; tried the .dev version for a bit, and while (thankfully) there's a board slider in the options, everything else is grossly oversized on a PC browser, and a huge step back from the current design.

On Firefox, it even reacts poorly to the built-in browser zoom... the font scales, but the main UI elements still use the same real estate of the unzoomed status, making it even worse

Also, it's all extremely focused on "verticality"... in the Study pages, for example, if you reduce the board size, the bottom element, the one that contains game tags and commentary, will shrink on the horizontal side, with a huge amount of screen space wasted for no good reson

... frankly, it looks horrible

I can understand that a web design that works well on smarphones will make every feature available without the need to mantain a dedicated app, like now, but it's a major blow to desktop users
If you think it's too big just make it smaller. Every single browser has a built in tool. Ctrl + and Ctrl - will do the trick.
@lovlas Unfortunately, as mentioned above, it does not react in a kind fashion to that... this is at 100% browser zoom:

and this is at 70%:

where you only made the issue worse by having smaller text, and almost unchanged graphical elements

In the Study page is even worse, board layout breaks if you zoom, main size stays the same and the pieces go off-center
