Erratum - GM Thipsay was a fake

That Caro-Kann is not super relevant to knowing theory well.

After all, it is a Caro-Kann and I would've been just as knowledgeable when I was 1600.

I think part of the reason why FIDE Arena may not care too much about GM Thispay being fake at their site is because GM's attract other strong players to play there so even if GM Thispay was fake and as long as nobody else knew about it about it except FIDE Arena, then FIDE arena would still make money. But now the cat is out of the bag their probably going to take a hit. I was going to register on their site for a FIDE rating and pay 25 bucks but I changed my mind.

But I don't really blame FIDE arena, after all its still beta.

If he was a fake, how could he make moves so quickly? He used to beat strong players in 3 minute games. Is 3 minutes enough to make a move to an engine and feed it back? Maybe it was GM Thipsay who got annoyed of being asked to verify his identity? You'll never know..

I'd rather play on a site (lichess) with strong players who are real than a site where fake GMs are kept around to draw a crowd of people who don't know better. :)

Also, 3 minute games are nothing. There have been cheaters caught blazing out perfect moves in 1-min games here using mouse click algorithms and such who even faked streams that people failed to catch onto for awhile.

It very possible to setup an engine for 1 minute games but its harder to do.

Indeed...and why they eventually get caught. Of course they always get caught, even in long games. Cheaters never win forever.
